Using millimeter-wave radar technology, your vehicle will assess the relative speed and distance of the car in front of you at all times and adjust your speed as necessary.

The lane-keep assist performs a similar function. Instead of monitoring the vehicle ahead of you, the lane-keep assist watches the lines on the road. If it determines that you’re drifting into another lane without your blinker on, the lane-keep assist takes over and gently corrects your steering to stay in your current lane. The lane-keep assist system is designed to protect fatigued drivers or drivers who are momentarily distracted, keeping them from inadvertently merging into another lane and potentially causing a major accident.

With this warning, drivers can apply the brakes before reversing into oncoming traffic, preventing an accident from occurring.

Smart Brake Support and Collision Warning

Perhaps the most important safety feature of the Mazda i-Activsense is the smart brake support, also known as automatic emergency braking. As you’re driving down Route 17, your Mazda monitors the road ahead. If you’re about to collide with another vehicle or pedestrian, your Mazda will alert the driver with a collision warning. If the driver applies the brakes, the vehicle will give the braking power a boost to help it stop faster. If the driver fails to apply the brakes, the Mazda vehicle will automatically apply the braking system.

Mazda automobiles are significantly less likely to be involved in collisions thanks to the automatic braking system. In those rare instances when events occur too quickly for a driver to react, the Mazda Smart Brake Support can slow the vehicle down and hopefully reduce some of the damage. Ideally, the collision warning will be enough for the driver to safely apply the brakes on their own, but if this warning system isn’t enough, it’s nice to have a backup system that can help lower accident rates and severity.

Then there are the driver alertness and awareness monitors. Your Mazda can sense the driver’s behavior and give an alert if it detects that the driver is falling asleep. If the Mazda detects that the driver is drowsy or distracted, it will give an auditory alert. This alert serves as a reminder to the driver that it’s time to pull over for a rest.
